Question: How could i make a auto window regulator plug into my home outlet?

(Posted by: Dillon on 2010-02-05 23:00:34)

I'm making a TV lift for my home and was thinking that i could use an automotive window regulator to aid in the lifting of the tv. My question is: How can I make the 12v automotive window regulator plug into a typical outlet in my home? Does anyone have a better idea for a motor? I guess if someone made a motor that plugs into a home outlet i could make a set of gears to lift the tv. Is one of these made? I'm not looking to spend $500 on a tv lift I'm not worried about the weight, i have large gas springs that will support all the weight. I'm looking for a motor that i can plug into the wall. could something like this be used http:/ / www.amazon.com/ Black- Decker- CV6B- Travel- Converter/ dp/ B0013AV9AG ?

You will need a 12v dc power supply. The cheapest way to go is a battery charger big enought o do the job. You could use a 12v drill battery and charger also. You may need to rig a counter balance system to offset the weight of the tv. It can be either a weight in the end of a lever or a pully setup and rope or cable.

Places like Radio Shack sell adapters that will reduce the 120V down to 12V, but a window does not weigh anywhere near what a TV does........you may want to try ehow.com and some other searching for something that will hold the weight
