My neighbors heating/AC unit is FROZEN!?
My neighbor is deployed and although his wife lives there she is not home often. Anyhow, his heating AC unit has about a three inch thick block of ice the whole way around it... is there a way to fix this, plus keep in mind it has been cold out. The past two days have been warm but it is still frozen. Thanks for your advice The part I don't understand is that it is currently being used as a heter and it is frozen... It has been like this for a while I just thought the idiot wife wrapped insulation around it till I actually looked at it yesterday. I e mailed him...
Central heating (combi) boiler appears ok but one by one the downstairs radiators are ceasing to work.?

What gauge wire for 20ft of electric baseboard heating is required?
British Gas refusing to repair heating via my home care agreement.. advise please?
I have a home care boiler agreement with British Gas and pay monthly for the service, A few years ago I had a service and the engineer suggested a magnet filter should be fitted to reduce the build up of material within the boiler. I was quoted over 300 and could not afford this so rejected the offer. Well my heating was not working so called out the engineer and he stated that the heating exchange needed replacing and quoted me 800 for parts and labour. He stated that the insurance does not cover the build up of materials and as I did not take the previous recommendation I was not covered The engineer suggested a cheaper alternative of fitting the magnet Magna Clean and and replacing a switch. However he stated if this did not work then I would have to pay for a whole new system. I realise that I should have taken the recommendation but did not realise my decision not to would have such a severe impact on my cover. Therefore it seems although I have been paying since the recommendation I am not really covered due to not taking their advice. As we have no other heating we are having the cheaper option completed tomorrow but I am not happy as I presumed my cover would protect against this. However my biggest worry is if anything goes wrong again they said I still would not be covered as it may be sludge build up from the past by not having the original recommendation implemented. So what is the point of having the home care if I am never going to be covered. The engineer stated that the cheaper option may not work as the Magna Clean Filter would stop future sludge build up but not remove existing sludge. However I believe to avoid this a power flush should have been offered but was not. Sorry for the rant and I would appreciate any views. Thank you
'Need service providers to use our pool heating solar panels for other use?
Hi, I live in San Ramon, CA. We have a nice set of solar panels, which we have been using for heating our pool. Is there a way that those solar panels can be used for house hold water heating instead of heating the swimming pool OR can they be traded for installing a new set of PV electricity useful panels to producing electricity. Pls get in touch with estimate and suggestions. Best regards.
Adding a Filter in the Return Air Duct in your heating system.?
Is this an option or does it restrict the air flow to your Furnace to much? What are the pros and cons?ThanksWe currently have a filter in the furnace downstairs, but was wondering about adding filters in the air returns upstairs on the main level not sure there designed for filters . I was thinking maybe that's too many filters.
Does a heat pump create an uncomfortable draft?
We are considering installing a heat pump instead of a gas furnace. We live in a mild climate, low 40's at coldest and 90's at highest, average around 70. From what I have read a heat pump will work well given the climate, but heat pumps can create drafts in the house. I would like to hear what people that have actually lived with a heat pump think about them. What's the good and bad from an end users opinion?I am especially interested geothermal heating.
Heat pumps suck in Eastern PA-is a hybrid worth it?
Again, this is the cheapo builder trying to save a buck and screw you I have a 3000 sq foot house with a single 20 year old Trane heat pump. Dont get me wrong, I love it if the temp is 50 or above. Below that, runs a lot, and at 35 and below it runs very close to 24 hours a day. My electric bill has been 450 month, and I rarely cook, and only have maybe 3 lights on at a time.Should I dump the whole thing for a separate ac unit and oil furnace? Otr should I get a hybrid? My only options are oil or propane for the hybrid. Right now, the heat pump backup is full electric coil, and it does come on when it is really cold out. When it is under 30, the house never gets above 72. We like a warm home usually around 72 or 73 degrees. The house has 2x6 exterior framing, and is insulated well. Built in 1988. I dont think insulation is a problem. I do not like to wear sweatshirts in the house. I cannot tolerat a thermostat setting of 68 degrees brrrrr way too cold.I am thinking about replacing it with an ultra high 19 seer unit with propane backup. Propane is cheaper than the electic coil backup. Also, I have a fireplace thinking about a pellet stove insert unfortunately they cost 5000 installed how will THAT investment ever be recouped?

I have an electric heat system in my house...?
We live at a high altitude and the home doesn't stay as warm as I'd be willing to pay for...so I'm wondering if anyone has a good suggestion for cheap & safe alternate sources. Also would like to have something for if we ever lose power ect. We do have small children in the home as well, so safety is always an issue. Thank you
