Why did my electric heating system suddenly use 3300 KWH more last month than usual?
This is not due to the colder winter weather we usually average 700kwh month during warm months and 1700 kwh month during winter. Last month our usage went up to 4000kwh. We narrowed the problem down to the heat, just need to know WHY our heating system could suddenly be pulling so much electricity. This isn't due to the blizzards or colder weather we had a similar blizzard in December with a houseful of guests and went up to our previous peak of 1800 kwh. I'm thinking something is wrong w the heat, but what are the possible problems?I live in Maryland.I read the meter myself it's a " speedometer" reading so mistakes are hard to make . We didn't have a very cold winter, just a lot of snow. But that doesn't explain how our usage more than doubled from previous winter months with comparable weather and temperatures.I know that it is cold in the winter. I have lived in this house for 2 previous winters and never used this much electricity in one month. Something is draining the kwh usage and I am looking for someone's input as to what the cause could be. And to the guy who said I didn't narrow it down... I did. We shut off the circuits and then turned them on one by one and the heating breaker made the meter start spinning like a disco ball.
Problems with heating - but we have a new boiler!?
New Worcester Greenstar combi boiler fitted less than a year ago. We've noticed that we haven't got any heat downstairs and the radiators upstairs are hot at the top and cooler at the bottom. We got a guy out yesterday who said that he thought the system was totally blocked the pipes downstairs are stone cold even and that the system needs a powerflush costing around 400 quid to sort it out. This is assuming that the pipes have been fitted up correctly but I assume they were because the downstairs radiators were hot to start with. He said that if we don't get it done then the new boiler won't last any more than 3 years.Have done some research on this and it would appear that the system should have been power flushed prior to the fitting of the new boiler because if not it would mean the guarantee on the boiler is void. 1. Is this true?2. Does anyone think it could be something else causing the problem before we fork out a good chunk of money?3. Is it easy to DIY?4. Any other advice gratefully received. Please don't suggest getting the firm back in who fitted the boiler originally because my husband was appalled at their workmanship leaks after they fitted the boiler. Cowboys...Thank you We know there's sludge in the system and all the rads have been bled for air.

Whirlpool gold gs395leg not heating after bad weather?
Okay so anyone living on the east coast pretty knows about the pre hurricane winds and rain that we experienced today. Well... My power during the day switched on and off but it never really stayed off. Everything worked fine, we even ate dinner, cooked, lights on.NOW... Not just 20 minutes ago me and my mom decided we wanted to bake cookies. I put the oven on bake. It beeped, i walked over, opened it, NO HEAT So my dad told us to unplug it for a few seconds. We tried it again. Now not only is the oven not heating but the burners arent igniting All we hear are the clicks and the gas smell. What can we do??? Anyone with a little expertise would be nice lol
Advice for house with expensive LPG central heating?
We have bought a house which uses bottles of LPG for central heating, and cooking. The 3 bedroom semi uses 125 of LPG every 3 weeks and has been recently serviced. There is no natural gas as it is a rural areaWhat advice can you give?Is 125 every 3 weeks as outrageous as I think?Would you switch to and alternative fuel?Would an oil system be more expensive?Cheers.
Water heater noise when heating up?
I live in a 1994 modular home. I have been here for almost 3 yrs. As far as I know the water heater is the original one, the problem I am having is that when it heats the water up it sounds like popping from inside it. like something is banging around inside. The community has well water and it has a LOT of calcium in it. they started flushing the system when i moved here and the rust is now gone but still a lot of calcium. I have a small filtration system in my house but it does very little to help. I don't know if I should call someone to come out because the only way to get to the heater is through my closet and i think i have to pry open the wall. if anyone knows what might be going on please help. ty
Heating System Question?
Hi,I recently lived in a friend's house where I had a chance to play with his heating thermostat with his permission . His house is kind of old house 1945 , I tried to turn the knob to 68 degree from basically no heat , then went to check on the little thing where heat suppose to come out what you call it? on the floor thing and it actually is very warm. But in my home 2006, using Honeywell , even when I turn the thermostat to 71, I wait a little bit then go and put my hand over that thing where heat comes out , its a bit cold. Until I turn it up to 75, it is then a bit warmer but not even to the level of 68 at my friend's house .Are there supposed to be any differences between old and new house in heating control ie, one requires higher set to temperature in order to product same amount of heat hotness ? Or is there a problem with mine? Thanks.
Cleaning wallpaper above baseboard heat?
Wall paper above heating baseboard shows darken dirt. Paper is washable, but concern is that it may become worse with treatment.
Who makes the parts for a wood fired steam powered electricity generator that can also heat a home?
Outdoor wood and coal furnaces as add on units to heat pumps are becoming popular now. I'm trying to find a vendor who makes a stand alone unit for powering a riverside cabin home. A 200 amp 240 VAC unit would be perfect, but a 100 150 amp unit would power everything.
