I am wondering if I should replace my old windows of my home or purchase a new AC Heating Furnace Unit which is the original system, probably over 20 years old....Which is the better investment at this time??
Why do home buyers always want a finished basement?
I don't get it sometimes. Like my parents tried to sell their house and it was estimated at $229,900. Well in the terrible job market area of Northwest Pennsylvania, you had to expect to not get that much for it. They only sold it for $170,000 and it took 2 years. Well I would help them with the open houses and let me tell you I'm amazed with people. Everyone always expects too much for a nothing and expect too much out of the previous homeowners. But get this, out of the first 10 couples that came in, none made an offer. But 8 out of the 10 asked to see the basement first compared to anywhere else or said they wanted a finished basement. And I'm like wow, even with the 3 car garage, carpeted hallways, new cabinets, new stove, a refrigerator to be given to whomever moves in, a half acre backyard, and a freshly paved driveway, they care more about the " finished basement" . You can't expect to have everything handed to you. If the finished basement matters so much to people why don't they do the darn thing themselves? If my parents were to have finished a basement, then someone who were to make an offer wouldn't want a basement, then it would be a waste of time. But I mean a finished basement would add $10,000 in value to the home. So would you rather have that added on to the house or buy the " house" for less? I mean if these home buyers want everything a la carte and want to spend $300,000 on a home with a tiny yard and a small driveway, then all power to them. But where I come from a " finished basement" isn't the end all be all of home buying.
How to build this air plant display (any handy home depot people)?
in this picture, there is a display on the left side that holds air plants. It looks like a metal pole with circular rings fastened to it at various heights. I'd like to make something like this. Any ideas on the supplies? Money is an issue for me, but I don't want to make the circles out of bent paper clips. Is there anyone who spends more time at home depot and has seen some sort of circular clamp that would do the trick? A home we are looking into doesn't have any sort of a sewer hook-up apparently?
We are looking into a home and its on a privatde drive and small piece of private land that is shared with one other person. As soon as he saw us outside, he came rushing out telling us, " no no, dont buy this house, it has no sewer hook up. you will hate it." Now, me and boyfriend believe he just wants this private land all to himself because we cant imagine a house being built without a sewage license. So really, the question is how much a septic tank, and or sewage hook up installation would cost in missouri.

Buying a new home - Chimney question.?
Me and my husband have put an offer on a house that is about 105 years old. There are a few problems with it, and I made other questions about a few problems, but this question is about the chimney.There is a chimney in one of the upper bedrooms that appears to be sealed off and no longer in use. That is the ONLY place in the whole house that shows signs of leaking.The inspecter said the roof was fine for at least another 5 years and looked pretty good, the leaking was due to the chimney.He told me what needed to be done, but with all the other repairs I forgot what he said by the time I got home He is giving me a typed report with it listed though in the next few days and he told me it would be on it.I wanted a heads up though on the problem. He told me it was a little crooked and needed straightend and something else.. maybe he said reflashed? Something about cleaning it out...Could anyone know the problem? Also what is reflashing? I tried to look it up but all I kept getting was pricing.. not information on what it was.He told me this needed to be done right away, but I really have no clue what the problem is. Is this something I should ask the seller to pay since I'm clueless?Any answers would help, thanks.Yes, thank you That rings a bell, he said it needed reflashing. Thank you for describing to me what it means, I will be sure to ask for it to be fixed when I fill out the repair form...If they refuse to fix it which I doubt, but who knows .. I'm making a TV lift for my home and was thinking that i could use an automotive window regulator to aid in the lifting of the tv. My question is How can I make the 12v automotive window regulator plug into a typical outlet in my home? Does anyone have a better idea for a motor? I guess if someone made a motor that plugs into a home outlet i could make a set of gears to lift the tv. Is one of these made? What type contract do I need to protect my rights in contract of extensive upgrade of my home?
I have picked out a contractor to do extensive work on outside of my home, including new roof, seamless guttering, new siding, new windows, extending the front foyer, extend back porch, all fascia, trim & more. What type of contract should I use to protect my rights and where could I find such an example of this contract. I'm about to spend $26,000 and don't want to be taken advantage of. Thanks for all your help Every answer has helped me, however the question was Where can I find an example of this type of contract assuming I would be better protected having one?I need to add that these exact terms on the bottom of the estimate says " 50 % at start, WEEKLY DRAW of $2000 and balance upon completion." What is this weekly draw...no one's ever heard of this? Sound funny that none of you mentioned this....I get more afraid of this attempt to upgrade this home the more I think about it.
